PUTTING OUR HEADS TOGETHER FOR UPUMC Eleven people met on Monday June 27 to brainstorm ways to increase our funding at UPUMC. The high-energy meeting generated many good ideas of things we can begin to do this summer and of things we can do in the future. Please read the attached report of the meeting and consider whether you would like to help with any of the projects named. Watch for times and places.
In the meantime, put these three events on your calendar:
Garage sale at Bill Thomasson’s home, 7466 N Van Hought, July 8-10. Bill needs help to carry, sort, set up, and sell. He has promised half the proceeds to UPUMC. A number of members will be at Creation Vacation, so your help will be very important. Sign up to help Bill.
Donut sales, second and fourth Thursdays, 7:30am-noon. With more volunteers, we can begin to take pre-orders and to deliver donuts, as well as selling more on site. The next sale will be on July 14. Let Carolyn Hammett know if you can help,, 503-653-7870. Sign up if you would like to help with the sale.
Carnival, August 13, 1-5:30pm, at UPUMC. This will be the first of what we hope will be an annual event. See the description below. We will need lots of volunteers.
POP CANS FOR UPUMC Bring your rinsed, empty cans and bottles to the box in Errol Stephenson Hall. Volunteers will return them for the deposits and donate the money to the church.
SUMMER OUTREACH AND ACTIVITY Be sure to include our busy church schedule in your plans for the summer. Fourth Sundays: July 31 Picnic [hamburgers and hotdogs] and games August 28 Picnic [hamburgers and hotdogs] and games
Other Events: The Carnival in North Portland, Saturday, August 13, 1-5:30pm. Remember school carnivals with games, cake walks, music, dancing, food, dunk booths, a movie and popcorn? This will be our version, a great good time and fund-raising event, scheduled on the same day as the North Portland Caring Community’s Readiness Fair.
All-Church Beach Retreat, Friday-Sunday, September 16-18. We have space reserved at Camp Magruder, where we can fish, canoe or kayak, swim, read, play games, sing, fix great meals, worship, take communion, and have a lot of fun together. Plan to attend; you’ll be glad you did.
MORGAN LEE DAVIS BORN JUNE 24 We celebrate the birth of daughter Morgan Lee Davis to Trena Klohe and Sanders Davis on Friday, June 24. Morgan weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and is 19 inches long. Trena, Sanders, big brother Taylor, and Morgan live at 3435 N Willis, Portland, OR 97203.
GREETINGS FROM TAMMY LEE Tammy Lee is now able to eat “real food,†a great step forward for someone who was in a coma for months in 2003. She can speak some, writes her thoughts quickly, is eager for visitors, and tried to join me in singing “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot†when I last visited. Tammy would love to have visitors. Some of her big interests are gardening, especially roses, and her grandchildren, Candace, Diana, and Cayla. Candace will be in Portland during July. To visit Tammy, take I-84 East to 181st Avenue. Go Right [South] to Division Street and then Left [East] to 202nd. Turn Right and then Right again on 8th Ct. It is the big pink house on the corner.
