A SIMPLE FUND-RAISER
Here’s a chance to turn bottles and cans into dollars for the church even as you save yourself some time. Bring your rinsed, empty containers to Errol Stephenson Hall where we will have a labeled box to collect them. Volunteers will return them for the deposits and donate the money collected to the church. Thanks to Carolyn Hammett for this idea.

SUMMER MOVIE SCHEDULE
Wednesday night dinners and movies will continue through the summer. The schedule is:

May 25 Bonhoeffer
June 1, 15, 22, 29 Jesus to Christ
July and August Sharing our favorite movies.

Jesus to Christ is a highly regarded four-part documentary that continues an exploration of how Christians moved from an experience of the person Jesus to an understanding of Jesus as Christ. Is there a movie that you really, really like and wish others would see? Sign up to share it with the movie bunch on a summer Wednesday.

This will be our version, a great good time and fund-raising event, scheduled on the same day as the North Portland Caring Community’s Readiness Fair.

All-Church Beach Retreat, Friday-Sunday, September 16-18. We have space reserved at Camp Magruder, where we can fish, canoe or kayak, swim, read, play games, sing, fix great meals, worship, take communion, and have a lot of fun together. Plan to attend; you’ll be glad you did.

IN THE MAIL
We at Pioneer United Methodist Church appreciate your willingness to make your meeting room available to us for our “retreat†in April.

If we can ever reciprocate, we would be happy to do the same for you. It was helpful to be in different surroundings, and we had a productive day. Thanks so much.

May God bless you for your kindness.

CREATION VACATION NEWS
Three different foundations in the Portland area are excited about what our churches are doing to put middle-income church members in direct contact with residents of low- income housing in their communities through Creation Vacation camps. They like the difference it makes in the fabric of a community to meet each other as friends—mutually supportive, sharing every day routines as well as special treats, providing respite for stressed lives, and returning home with personal, family and community benefits that last over time. The three community foundations that have provided grants are: Women’s Care Foundation ($2,500), the Portland Women’s Union Foundation ($2,000), and the Herbert A. Templeton Foundation ($4,000). Counting these grants, the total contributed so far for Creation Vacation camps this summer is $17, 575; a total of $35,000 is needed.
Are you available to be one of the Family Friends? The Camp from North Portland will run July 6-9 at Camp Magruder on the Oregon Coast. Contact Jeanne, Carol Doyle or Margaret Eichler to sign up.

PEACE WITH JUSTICE
Today is Peace with Justice Sunday, a special offering day of The United Methodist Church. Half of the money collected stays within our conference for local ministries. The other half is used for Peace with Justice ministries of the General Board of Church and Society, including projects to reduce domestic violence, promote peace between different faiths, provide clean water, and fight global AIDS.
