THE NURSERY IS STAFFED DURING WORSHIP

THE GIVING BASKET
The Giving Basket is in the Narthex after church. Take whatever you’d like to have. Leave whatever you’d like to give. No junk. It’s that easy.

MOVIE NIGHTS
We will continue the Wednesday evening dinner and movie series, viewing films about congregations and spiritual development on January 26 and February 2. From February 16 through March 16, we will be seeing films selected around a theme of Caring Relationships. Plan to come for a simple supper at 6:30pm and a film at 7, followed by discussion. Bring a guest if you’d like.

AN EVENING IN CAMBODIA
Six members of Rose City Park UMC will be going to Cambodia with a United Methodist Volunteers in Mission team in February 2005. While team members will pay all of their own expenses associated with the trip, the team is holding a fund-raising dinner to raise $4,000 that will provide money for projects they will be working on while in Cambodia. Tickets for the dinner and entertainment, to be held at Rose City Park UMC on Saturday, January 29 at 6pm are $10 in advance, by calling 503-281-1229.

HELP WITH PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Seniors and people with disabilities can get assistance in enrolling in the Medicare Drug Discount Program or other programs to save money on prescription drugs from Multnomah County Aging and Disabilities Services. Call 503-988-3646 to set up an appointment with a trained volunteer helper at one of five Multnomah County libraries, including the North Portland Library. You must enroll by March 31, 2005 to get the full benefit.
DREAMING ABOUT SUMMER VACATION
Do you spend winter dreaming about a summer vacation, maybe in the mountains, at a lake? Wallowa Lake United Methodist Camp may be the place you’re looking for. The camp is offering a new type of family camping, Spiritlife Vacation Camps, June through September. Here you can combine the resort-style opportunities in the Wallowa Lake area [horseback riding, swimming, boating, mountain hiking and more] with quiet time at camp to renew family ties and rebuild your faith priorities.
Camp staff provides intergenerational worship experiences, nature discovery, crafts, campfires, meals and lodging. You are welcome to participate in as much or as little of the program as benefits your soul.
A family [you define who your family is] or an individual can stay overnight or for a week. The new yurt style cabins provide a wonderful space where families can be together. The resort-style vacation package includes meals and lodging. the Spiritlife program is non-denominational and is offered freely to all persons in the Spirit of Christ.
A good idea? Visit the Wallowa Lake Camp webpage at http://www.gocamping.org/wallowa.html for more information, check out your summer calendar, and make a reservation by calling the Conference Camping Office at 503-226-7931.

UPUMC SECOND ANNUAL ALL-CHURCH RETREAT AT CAMP MAGRUDER
While we’re looking at summer calendars, be sure to reserve Friday-Sunday, September 16-18 for our All-Church Retreat at Camp Magruder. Here’s what we do: rest, walk on the beach, canoe, kayak, swing on the big swing, cook great food for each other, play games, talk, laugh, take communion on the beach, gather wild huckleberries, read, get to know each other better, dream up good ideas for the church. It was wonderful in 2004. We have more space, including a couple rooms where couples can be housed separately, for the 2005 retreat. Is it really a good idea?—Talk to Scott, Judy, Bev R., Betty, Stephanie or Lisa for their opinions.

BE A FAMILY FRIEND AT CREATION VACATION
Each summer the Oregon-Idaho Conference and Camp Magruder host about 25 low-income families, mostly from North Portland, at a four day vacation at Camp Magruder. A big part of the success of that program is people—like you?—who volunteer to be “Family Friends,†people who give their time and care to make this a wonderful time for families who seldom get a chance to vacation together. This year, Creation Vacation is July 6-9, with Friends arriving for training on July 5. Plan to join us.

PLEASE DON’T GO HUNGRY. WE HAVE FOOD IN OUR PANTRY, LOCATED IN THE HALLWAY LEADING TO ERROL STEPHENSON HALL, AND TV DINNERS, MARKED “WE CARE,†IN THE FREEZER. TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
