We have rescheduled the event to Sunday, August 13, Noon-4pm. Plan now to attend, visit, help, enjoy, and welcome people to our wonderful community of faith. We will schedule our annual Reconciling Sunday on the same day. JANITOR POSITION WILL OPEN Phil Herbach will be retiring as our janitor. The position involves cleaning the church weekly, generally on Saturday. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee will interview applicants at its June 12 meeting, tomorrow evening. FROM THE MAIL BOX May 17, 2006 Good morning, and greetings Jeanne, Marcia, and UPUMC congregation.
Lena tells me she has received info from you, which I’ll see when I’m at their home—don’t get there often because high steps into the house are a challenge. Recovering agility takes time. At Pioneer Tower there aren’t steps expect the fire escape.
I’m so thankful to be here, and in an apartment that’s ideal for me: 2nd floor, SW corner. There’s a parking lot below with trees, and the streets are tree-lined. Traffic is mostly family cars and quiet buses. When a march is headed for the Capitol it’s a sight to see—people of all ages, babies in strollers, flags (U.S. and parent country)—humanity filling the street as well as sidewalks, bike-mounted police alongside plus those at the intersection. There have been only two marches. More sound emerges from fire engines with ambulances, also roaring motorcycles at times. ... Carl now has a hospital bed and a wheel chair. The staff want his legs capable of holding himself while standing and thus they help him exercise the legs while in bed. He is fed at the table because he wasn’t getting enough food—it landed on his clothing or the floor (or both).
Lena, Richard, and Natalie are fine. Lena brings Natalie for a quick visit and on their last visit Natalie took 3 steps in the middle of the room. ...
Now I’ll fold this and drop it in the mail slot downstairs as I go to meet Lena and get me to a doctor for a follow-up visit. May God continue to bless us all—there and here. Lovingly, Harriet

REAPPOINTED As I write this on June 1, I have every reason to believe that Marcia Hauer and I will be/have been reappointed to serve as your pastors here at University Park United Methodist Church for another year. It is my great joy to begin another year of ministry with you. I can think of no position I would rather have. Thanks you so much for being the wonderful people of faith, courage and kindness that you are! --Jeanne

I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. – Albert Schweitzer (Jan. 14, 1875-Sept. 4, 1965)
