MAY FOOD DRIVE Twice each year, in November and May, UPUMC collects non-perishable food for the Good Samaritan Food Bank of North Portland. On Thursday, June 1, we will take the gathered food offerings to the Good Samaritan Food Bank of North Portland. Remember, we gather offerings of food at the altar because we are called to care for our neighbors as an act of worship. Please remember those who are hungry as you do your shopping and contribute as you can. Eternal and Compassionate God, remind us in the midst of plenty, that there are many all around us in urgent need of food. Many in our towns and cities go hungry this day. And more go hungry as each month passes. Help us to learn how to care deeply. Show us ways Lord, to respond as Jesus would, and bless us as we feed and serve the hungry. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. PLEASE DON’T GO HUNGRY. WE HAVE FOOD IN OUR PANTRY, LOCATED IN THE HALLWAY LEADING TO ERROL STEPHENSON HALL. TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.

The Finance Committee urged a change to the format of reporting our financial status to make it clearer that we are running significantly behind budget. So what does it mean, when we are behind? Mostly, three things: Apportionments aren’t paid in full, programming and up-keep are canceled or delayed, and the pastors take their pay checks late, or at some point, in part. If you are up-to-date in your pledge, thank you very much. If you are behind and are able to catch up, it would be much appreciated. And if you are in a position to give more than you had planned, it would be a wonderful gift.
PRIDE FESTIVAL MOVED TO AUG 13 Free food, beverages, musicians, political speakers, neighborhood leaders, vendor tables, information about living in North Portland—The North Portland Pride Festival is one of our biggest annual outreach events. We have rescheduled the event to Sunday, August 13, Noon-4pm. Plan now to attend, visit, help, enjoy, and welcome people to our wonderful community of faith. We will schedule our annual Reconciling Sunday on the same day.
JANITOR POSITION WILL OPEN Phil Herbach will be retiring as our janitor. The position involves cleaning the church weekly, generally on Saturday. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee will interview applicants at its June 12 meeting. We hope the new janitor will work alongside Phil on June 17 and 24 for training.
ALL ARE WELCOME Jayden Daniels wrote a new song and sung it for worship on May 21. She has generously agreed to share the lyrics with us in UP-words.
1: We are His children, each of us special in His eyes He forsakes no one, all are welcome in Paradise His love is all we need, none other can compare God alone is always there
Chorus: All are welcome just as you are His love is unconditional It matters not where you come from Or what you did in your past For all us sinners He paid the price With Him we’ll dwell forever Our Lord, our Savior, Christ
2: Come to His table, a feast is prepared for you, come eat, drink Never will you be hungry or thirsty when you draw near Brothers and Sisters, we are one family There are no outcasts here
3: Go and preach the Gospel to everyone says the Lord To every nation all of creation spread My love This we must all do, with God’s love shining through All of the world will know
